Gon on Safari

    (Paradox, 2000)
™ and ©2000 Paradox Press

Writer/artist Masashi Tanaka’s poignant tales of world’s smallest and fiercest dinosaur are wordless, but speak volumes. In this collection of stories from DC’s Paradox Press imprint, Gon befriends a dying elephant and aids him in his journey to the sacred elephant graveyard, where he will find his final rest. Another tale finds Gon exploring his paternal feelings for a net of eagle-chicks that has landed on his head. The third tale in this paperback collection finds littlest dino and his friends making an incredible journey in spite of impossible odds, while the final story speaks to Gon’s endurance—both physical and spiritual—as he makes his way to the top of a mountain.

Tanaka’s stories are wonderful—simple, but powerful in terms of their characterization and their universal truths; and his artwork is drop-dead gorgeous. If you haven’t yet discovered Gon, you must.
