Superman & Batman: Generations II

    (DC, 2001-2002)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics

In 1999 writer/artist John Byrne produced Superman & Batman: Generations, a 4-issue Elseworlds mini-series that traced the careers of Superman and Batman from their genesis in the 1930s through the subsequent decades, aging them and the characters around them in real time. Aside from members of the cast aging and eventually dying, each subsequent decade introduced offspring and new characters whose careers begged exploration.

Thus was born Generations 2 which after a bit of rewinding, extrapolates the careers of those ancillary characters as well as the rest of the Justice Society and Justice League. The storytelling pace is so brisk that the narrative has the feel of a condensed novel. The time span of this mini-series is almost eight decades with events coming so fast and furious that a momentous development occurs with clockwork regularity on almost every page.
