Superman: Speeding Bullets

    (DC, 1993)
™ and ©1993 DC Comics

As the doomed planet Krypton erupted into a fiery conflagration, a single craft escaped with that world’s sole survivor. The orphaned infant arrived on Earth to be found and cared for by a loving couple…and Alfred, their faithful butler! Yes, in this Elseworlds story, it was Thomas and Martha Wayne who became Superman’s adoptive parents, until, evoking the origin of Batman, they were killed by a mugger.

This amalgam of Superman’s character with Batman’s life serves to highlight the fundamental differences in temperament between these two stalwarts of the DC Universe. With solid, pleasing art by Eduardo Barreto, the writer, J. M. DeMatteis, examines the how different Superman would have been had he endured the trauma of Batman’s experiences.
