Peter the Little Pest can be thought of as the evil twin of Dennis the Menace. On one hand, he’s a precocious little tyke doing typical childhood antics like feeding his vegetables, under the table, to the family dog. More often, however, he’s a nasty little piece of work. His parents marvel that their windows look so clean, because he broke them all playing ball; he intentionally gives bad directions to tourists; and it seems that he manages to burn down the house several times in each issue. These gag strips were often funny, but they lacked the boyish sweetness that made Dennis such an enduring favorite.
