Sins of Youth: Batboy and Robin
(DC, 2000)
™ and ©2000 DC Comics
The Bat–contribution to DC’s 2000 “Sins of Youth” storyline gets fair mileage out of age–swap that leaves Bruce Wayne a young man and Tim Drake full–grown. The simplest solution, of course, is for them to swap outfits, and so a fairly nervous Robin dons the Batsuit, with a moody teenage billionaire shadowing him. Cary Nord (man, these “Sins of Youth” books are just a circus of rising stars, aren’t they?) provides smooth lines and figure work that competently highlight the fact that the characters might look like Batman & Robin, but they sure don’t feel like it. Lurking under Nord’s pencil, Bruce Wayne is actually scarier as Robin than he ever was as Batman. Writer Chuck Dixon recognizes the significant improvement to a story when a concept is married to a final conflict and resolution, but the little villain could use a name, for the benefit of new readers.
