Hawkman (2nd Series)

DC’s writers gave Hawkman a much-needed reworking in the mini-series The Shadow War of Hawkman. In it, they removed Shiera’s rival Mavis Trent, stripped Katar and Shiera Hall of their Thanagarian technology (which tended to pop up in the middle of a fight as a weak story device to let the pair gain victory), and told of Thanagar’s quiet invasion of Earth.

That latter point constituted the real story of the Shadow War, a plot which is continued in this second Hawkman series. Thanagar, once a freedom-loving world has embraced totalitarianism, and now, through infiltration, intends to take over the governments of Earth. As this series begins, Thanagar is well on its way to controlling the next president of the United States—but only Katar and Shiera are even aware that the invasion is underway…
