Marvel Knights Sketchbook

This supplement to Wizard: The Guide to Comics no. 84 previews Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti’s Marvel Knights imprints and features sketches from and interviews about Daredevil (Vol. 2), The Punisher (4th Series), The Black Panther (Vol. 2), and The Inhumans (Vol. 2). Even though it’s primarily hype, this skinny giveaway offers up some interesting comments from the likes of writers Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob), Christopher Priest (Quantum and Woody), Tom Sniegoski (Vampirella Strikes), and Christopher Golden (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Also included are gorgeous black-and-white sketches from artists Joe Quesada (X-Factor), Berni Wrightson (Swamp Thing), Mark Texiera (JCP Features), and Jae Lee (Hellshock).

Similar to the deal with Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld that saw relaunches of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Captain America, and Iron Man in a “pocket universe” of titles produced by Lee and Liefeld’s studios, these books are produced by Event Comics but take place in the mainstream Marvel Universe. The Marvel Knights line proved successful enough to spawn a second wave of titles after about six months.
