Necron (Catalan)

Androgynous dominatrix Frida Boher and her Frankenstein–like creation Necron get themselves into a number of tight spots. Low fuel forces Frida to land their plane in a strange countryside. Wily Frida pretends to be someone she’s not in order to get more fuel. She ends up joining a group of female aristocrats who act as judges hearing the cases of local men who stand accused of sexual transgressions. Absurdly minor infractions are dealt with harshly, but Necron is played for laughs.

For his part, the witless and insecure Necron has a hard time controlling his appetites, both for sex and food. Aside from witlessly eating whatever’s put in front of him, he has a nervous tendency to overreact, often killing people. When the ladies of the court discover Frida is not what she appears, they turn on her and take an interest in Necron, who is hung like a horse. Frida is none to pleased with Necron’s betrayal and she makes sure he gets what’s coming to him.

Necron is the sly, deranged product of prolific Italian artist Roberto Raviola working under the name Magnum. Magnum gained notoriety for the black and white illustration style displayed here. Several volumes Necron stories were published in Italy in the early 1980s, some of which received English translations a decade later.

Magnum died in 1996.
