After fifty issues of its initial run, StormWatch started over in a second series in 1997. Under the direction of writer Warren Ellis, the team of super-powered U.N. peacekeepers has taken on a sharp edge, and the action sequences make them seem every inch the professional soldiers they claim to be. When they take down a group of terrorists at the opening of “Strange Weather,” the three-part storyline that kicked off the series, it’s like watching six James Bonds swing into action: they’re fast, efficient, and sport none of the angst and infighting that characterize so many other supergroups.

The burden of politics is largely carried by Weatherman One, their eye-in-the-sky leader. Not that politics is a small part of their problem. As a result of StormWatch acting against U.S.-based terrorists without official sanction in the opening battle of this series, they have been banned from U.S. territory!
