Combat Zone: True Tales of GIs in Iraq

    (Marvel, 2005)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.

Karl Zinsmeister takes his experience as an embedded journalist during the Iraq War to bring readers tales based on true experiences from the 82nd Airborne.

Taking place over the course of a month, we see the day to day lives of men and women from different parts of the United States adapting to conditions and urban warfare in the sand storms and bugs of the Middle East. Throughout the book, we get a feel of what it’s like for those so far from home, but knowing they have a job to do and giving it the best they can.

These tales come from Zinsmeister’s two non-fiction works, Boots on the Ground: A Month With the 82nd Airborne in the Battle for Iraq and Dawn Over Baghdad: How the U.S. Miliary is Using Bullets and Ballots to Remake Iraq as well as his documentary for PBS entitled Warriors.
