Gen13 is the fast-moving story of four teenagers who have discovered that they possess amazing powers. At the same time, they are hunted down by a government agency who wants to use those powers for its own ends.

The teens are Burnout, Grunge, Freefall, and leader Fairchild. They were taken to a place called Project Genesis where they were held, along with the a young boy named Timmy and his monstrous counterpart, Pitt. If they wished to survive they would need to find a way to harness their newfound abilities and escape their captors.

Image originally planned to call this title Generation-X, a reference to the post-baby boom generation in America. Marvel Comics, however, forced Image to change the title as it planned to release a title with that name. It might also have been seen as a grab at the virtual monopoly Marvel held on titles containing the letter “X.”
