Bite Club

It’s no surprise that Bite Club was co-written by Howard Chaykin. The stylized explosion of graphic sex and violence are his trademark. Bite Club is set in Miami, Florida, and one immediately spots the influence of Brian De Palma’s 1983 remake of Scarface. Like Chaykin, De Palma always stirred controversy by combining kinky eroticism with buckets of gore. In that sense, Bite Club delivers what any Chaykin devotee would expect. But Bite Club does have a clever premise: the book’s protagonist, Leto, is a vampire priest; and after his Mafia kingpin father Eduardo Del Toro is murdered, he has to choose between the church or taking over his dad’s “family.”
