Daring Hero

In pulp-fiction style, this classic British comic presents a collection of mystery and action tales. The stories cover several different aspects of the genre, featuring characters such as the refined French Inspector Janvier; hard-hitting Los Angeles gumshoe Holly Vine; and even Hootshaw, the owlish detective of the funny animal crowd. And in what was perhaps a very daring publishing step for its time, Scion Comics presented their stories in dazzling four-color brilliance. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, only alternate pages were in color in issue #2. Some of the stories, however, like the adventures of Inspector Janvier, benefit from the starker quality inherent in black-and-white illustration.
