Thing From Another World: Climate of Fear
(Dark Horse, 1992)
™ and ©1982, 1992 Universal City Studios
The Thing was a sort of alien virus discovered in the Antarctic by the hapless crew of U.S. Antarctic Research Outpost #31. Only two of them survived the encounter with this monster that could take over a body by infecting a single cell and then animate it to do its bidding. The survivors, MacReady and Childs, were left stranded in the frozen wastes until picked up by a whaling vessel, then captured by a SEAL team, which in turn was infected. At the end of the two-issue Thing (From Another World) mini-series, we were left with MacReady floating on an ice floe, and the entire SEAL team destroyed by the Thing.
In Climate of Fear, MacReady is picked up by an Argentine research station in Tierra del Fuego, and again a man is infected. A single touch and the Thing could kill any one of them—but nobody knows yet whose body the Thing is inhabiting. All the men and women of the isolated research base can do is wonder: which of them harbors the killer?
