Shi vs. Tomoe

    (Crusade, 1996)
™ and ©1996 William Elliott Tucci

Ana Ishikawa (Shi) was raised in the sohei (“warrior”) tradition of the Kyoto temples by her grandfather. Her best friend from college, Tomoe Gozan, was bound by her own allegiance to the Nara sohei. The Kyoto and Nara sohei had been involved in a furious blood feud for centuries, culminating in the shogun Nobunaga’s Nara-led ambush of the Kyoto monasteries in the 16th century. Now, Ana and Tomoe find themselves once again fighting out that ancient conflict. The Nara had allied themselves with the Yakuza. When Ana attacked her enemy Arashi’s men, Arashi invoked the alliance, forcing Tomoe by duty to do battle against her old friend.

Told entirely through pinup panels and heavy inner dialog, this special edition is a turning point for Ana and Tomoe, marking the passage of Tomoe’s innocence, and Ana’s desperate bid to reclaim her soul from the path of vengeance she had set out on when first she became Shi.
