Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come is an Elseworlds story of what might happen in a different version of the DC Universe. In it we see the world of the near future where super-heroes and super-villains have become largely indistinguishable from each other. Both have both grown jaded with power, and even the heroes have lost any regard for the mere humans they are meant to protect. In the end, their ceaseless battles eventually result in blasting Kansas into a radioactive ruin.

It’s then that an aging pastor is visited by the Spectre and shown what it is that the world has become. It’s a place where super-heroes have taken the place of gods, and where the final battle between them threaten to usher in Ragnarok—the end of the world.

A four-issue tour de force by writer Mark Waid (Flash) and painter Alex Ross (Marvels), Kingdom Come was one of the standout series of 1996.
