Rusty
(Marvel, 1947-1949)
™ and ©1947 Marvel Characters, Inc.
Series becomes “Rusty and Her Family” for issues #21–22
Rusty was another in the stable of nearly-interchangeable teen humor comics published by Marvel in the 1940s and 1950s (others included Mitzi and the long-lived Millie the Model). Redheaded heartthrob Rusty spends her days planning how to manipulate her boyfriends and foil her jealous female rivals while contriving to appear in all manner of slinky dresses and lingerie. Events are punctuated by madcap sub-Archie humor and goofy artwork solidly in the teen comic genre. Every so often, readers would find a treat in the back pages, with a short Hey Look! feature by Mad-man Harvey Kurtzman or a bit of inspired looniness from the pen of Basil Wolverton.
