Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire—Evolution
(Dark Horse, 1998, 2000)
™ and ©1998 Lucasfilm Ltd.
This mini-series takes place following the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and focuses not so much on the core Star Wars characters, but on a fallen crimelord, and the human replica droid named Guri, that the crimelord had programmed as his personal assassin.
While a mysterious alien searches for Guri, she is adjusting to life as a sentient android without a master to serve. Eventually, she reaches the conclusion that she no longer wants to be an assassin, but changing her basic programming will require the services of an expert: the former admiral in charge of the Empire’s droid research facility. While he’s intrigued by the job, he can’t do the delicate surgery without the services of a specially programmed medical droid—which unfortunately has been stolen by the Pikkel sisters for delivery to Spinda Caveel. It’s a problem, but Guri is used to handling problems…and has no trouble using the force necessary.
