Valor (RCP)

Nobody’s feelings will be hurt by calling this a bad 1950s comic—because that’s the modern publisher’s major selling point. Originally published by EC in 1955, this comic sees light again in the 1990s thanks to Gemstone Publishing, which revived the title under the theory that these stories are so bad, they’re good. In one of these “tales of mortal combat and deeds of valor,” the Greco-Roman War is the backdrop for a familiar tale of a virile blond gladiator who catches the eye of a spoiled Empress…and then incurs her jealous wrath when he falls for a pure-hearted female captive. Another tale raises the question of whether the legendary King Arthur has returned. In each story, much bravery is shown.

Worse comics have certainly been published, but most of them lack the amusing charm on display here. Talents even include occasional well-known names—Wally Wood, for example.
