The California Raisins lasted about as long as Blackthorne’s push of the 3-D comic book format, so it was only natural that it would become one of the subjects of their ongoing series. The Raisins began life as just another commercial plug to get people to eat more raisins via claymation raisin characters crooning to “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” The one- joke Raisins then achieved a life of their own, spawning hit record albums and animated TV shows, so this comic book was just another example of capitalizing of their fame before their inevitable downfall.
