Flaxen: Alter Ego
(Caliber, 1995)
Flaxen ©1995 Golden Apple Industries. Susie Owens ©1995 Susie D. Owens
Susie Owens is the real-life inspiration for the comic book character, Flaxen. Susie, a nurse and mother of one, travels to many conventions each year, tirelessly promoting the character. In “Flaxen-Alter Ego,” Flaxen tries to continue to keep her secret identity from her daughter, Gabriele.
In her super-heroine persona, Flaxen is also having trouble, even being blamed for causing a California earthquake. It turns out that Susie’s other personality, Dark Angel, is trying to get out by causing Flaxen as many problems as she can. The series chronicles the struggles between the two personalities. They both know full well that only one personality can be victorious. They both cause thousands of dollars worth of property damage. The rest of the series chronicles Flaxen’s adventures as she tries to rediscover who she is.
