Escape artist extraordinaire Harry Houdini has orchestrated the ultimate escape: he’s broken free of the afterlife in order to prevent his beloved wife Bess’s impending murder, but there’s a bit of hitch: he’s returned in the body of a young stockbroker on the eve of the 1929 Wall Street crash, and because of his wild claims, everyone believes him to be insane. His quest leads him to seek help from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the man behind Sherlock Holmes, and brings him into contact with such period luminaries as aviator Charles Lindbergh and occultist Aleister Crowley. Houdini’s endeavors to foil his wife’s would-be killer embroil the escape artist in a convoluted supernatural plot to uncover the secrets that lie beyond the veil and call into question his own death. This digest-size graphic novel that takes its title from one of the great Houdini’s films and offers an engaging mystery that is rife with twists and turns.
