Mad TV

Mad tried for years to break into television or movies, especially upon seeing rival humor magazine National Lampoon break in so easily with their hits like Animal House and Vacation. Mad even tried an animated TV special in the early 70s, but for various reasons, the show never aired, despite a pilot being produced. In the mid-90s, Mad tried again, this time emulating the popular format introduced by Saturday Night Live and competing directly against them. The ploy worked and Mad TV has been on the air for over a decade. Mad TV is like Mad the magazine on the slimmest of connections, but when the show first aired, this special issue came out as a means to bridge the gap.
