Stargate SG-1 POW

Stargate SG-1 is a hugely popular show overseas; it’s been called the most popular current SF show in the world. Renato Guedes’ art in this tie-in comic book does a good job of capturing likenesses of the main characters, including Colonel Jack O’Neill, played by MacGyver’s Richard Dean Anderson.

Unfortunately, someone who has never seen an episode of Stargate SG-1 will not get up to speed here. In fact, it seems as if writer James Kuhoric goes out of his way to avoid explaining the world of Stargate to the reader. As a result, this seems designed to alienate both Stargate fans and the rest of the world. The Stargate fans are going to want a comic based on the current, sixth season, and not the show that was on Showtime for a season before moving to The Sci-Fi Channel. The rest of the world is going to want a user-friendly story that introduces the cast of characters and explains who they’re fighting and the point of the Stargates. Since this serves neither purpose, what’s the point?
