Sparkplug
(Hero, 1994)
™ and ©1994 Heroic Publishing, Inc.
Olga Gottman is a beautiful, strong woman. Blessed with the power of lightning, she makes criminals tremble in their boots. A former member of the League of Champions, she left the team and became a German resident. Living in her more famous sister Flare’s shadow, she can hold her own against any challenge, but feels a need to prove it. Now, in her homeland, she protects the innocent and fights the worst Germany has to offer.
This three-issue mini-series gives Sparkplug a well-deserved starring role. She proves to be a remarkably complex character, capable of a subtlety of emotion rarely seen in super-hero comics. In reading her adventures (as well as those of big sister Flare), we are often left to wonder about what is driving her to do what she does. This is a marked contrast to the stereotypical super-hero character who wears their motivations like a banner or a costume.
