Ray Terrill’s father, the original Ray, was exposed to a genetic light bomb that not only gave him his super-human powers but also changed his genetic make-up. When he saw that his son had inherited his powers, Ray’s father sent him to live with a foster family, and told him exposure to sunlight would kill him. For eighteen years, Ray lived in complete darkness and was privately tutored in a home with permanently darkened windows.

Luckily, an emergency forced Ray to realize his long-hidden powers, which he now uses, much as his father did, in the eternal battle against evil.

In addition to reviving the Golden Age Ray, this mini-series is notable as the professional debut of hot artist Joe Quesada, who rocketed to stardom with Batman: Sword of Azrael.
