Cobra is a Japanese manga comic by Buichi Terasawa, adapted in English by Marv Wolfman. Cobra begins as a reality two-step in the manner of Total Recall, where a work-a-day bum decides to spice up his life by experiencing implanted memories of heroic adventures. Then somewhere along the way, the dream gets confused with reality and the bum actually becomes the hero he thought he had imagined. In this case, the hero is Captain Cobra, a cigar-chomping pirate-buster with a blaster built into his arm, as he takes on the Space Mafia with busty manga-chick (and Yakuza refugee) Jane Royal. Terasawa milks the storyline for lots of up-tempo action, and Wolfman adds characterization with wise-cracking English dialogue.
