Publisher becomes Egmont, runs as Thomas & Friends

Thomas the Tank Engine is the star of this British magazine of stories inspired by the long-running children’s television show, “Shining Time Station.” Thomas is a smiling steam engine who is always up for a race or a good challenge, cheerfully greeting everyone with his trademark “Pip! Peep!” He is joined in his adventures by a cast of other engines, as well as the Fat Controller, a railway station manager.

The stories here are extremely basic and colorfully illustrated, perfect for bedtime reading to small children. The biweekly (or, as the English say, “fortnightly”) magazine also include dot-to-dot games, puzzles, and other fun features.
