If you ever liked Daniel Manus Pinkwater or any demented fairy tales for that matter, you’ll love this book. Just as the title implies, it takes beautiful stories but adds a bizarre twist throughout, juxtaposing the classic story lines with the grotesque, the impossible, and the downright weird. It’s an irresistible treat for the twisted mind.

All the stories and illustrations come from warped psyches of writer Dave Louapre and artist Dan Sweetman. They’re the sort of folks who spend their time worrying about the Andy Griffith Show’s “Opie” stalking them, and what would happen if smog were blue. We’re not exactly sure what, but it seems that should tell you something about this series…
