This story of a boy in the summer before college will plunge readers back into their angst-ridden teen years, and John Porcellino’s simple art and effective storytelling are easy to relate to. Reminiscent of the writing of Seth in It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken, Porcellino’s book examines the goal of being happy.

But the gut-wrenching heartaches of the character may make those readers yearn for a strong anti-depressant, if they read very much of these trials and tribulations. And who wants to remember the horrors of the teen years, anyway?
