Sherlock Jr.

It may look like a real comic book from its covers, but Sherlock Jr. is really a compilation of Sherlock Holmes Jr. comic strips by Sidney Smith, the creator of The Gumps. The strips don’t have copyright dates, but since Smith died in 1935, it doesn’t take a detective to realize how old they are. Unlike his namesake Sherlock Holmes Jr. isn’t bright at all. In one strip he uses an umbrella to hide his face from thieves; unfortunately, he didn’t see the message a criminal wrote on it: “I am a detective…hit me with a brick.” His idiocy is often the punch line.
