The Ring of the Nibelung (Dark Horse)

The great fantasy artist P. Craig Russell (Sandman, Elric) has always had an interest in German opera, whose grand heroic themes are often echoed in 20th century “sword and sorcery” literature. With Ring of the Nibelung, he tackles Richard Wagner’s epic cycle on the life and death of gods and heroes.

Now published by Dark Horse in four volumes, The Ring of the Nibelung tells the story of the hero Siegfried and his doomed romance with Brunhilde, against the backdrop of Nordic mythology and legend. A dense and dark work on the stage, the Ring sparkles in Russell’s graphic adaptation, enlivened by the effortless grace and beauty of his penmanship. The Ring of the Nibelung garnered two Eisner awards, for best penciller/inker and best limited series.
