Deadshot (2nd Series)
(DC, 2005)
™ and © 2005 DC Comics
Gotham playboy turned assassin–for–hire Floyd Lawton actually got his start back in 1950 (Batman #59), but he didn’t start regularly appearing until the 1970s. His visibility peaked in the 1980s with his own mini–series and a core role in the first post–Crisis edition of Suicide Squad, but after its cancellation in 1992 he was relegated to guest appearances in other comics. Now Chris Gage (a writer for the TV series Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) has updated the character and sent him on a mission that directly links to his past. After executing a contract on a Russian mobster with the help of several other B–list super–villains, Floyd ditches the post–job party, driven by his hatred of his life and lack of empathy with others. Soon after, a letter intended for his dead parents informs him that he has a daughter; this leads him to the slums of Star City, where a prostitute he once hired struggles to keep straight in the shadow of a three–sided gang war. When she refuses his offer to move her and their daughter someplace safer, Deadshot simply walks across the street, sets up in a tenement hotel, and proceeds to take on gangs, super–villains and super–heroes in order to protect the only family he has left.
