Barbarians and Beauties
(AC, 1990)
™ Americomics, © AC Comics
In the early 1950s, in the waning years of the Golden Age and well before the advent of the Silver Age, a wide variety of genres filled the comics racks. Bill Black of AC Comics endeavored to expose these long-neglected stories to a new generation. As he had done with lost western stories (Great American Western), Black collected tales of lost civilizations and cultures in this title that certainly contained beauties, though the barbarians were often modern men in savage surroundings.
The artwork, by such luminaries as Wally Wood, Sid Greene and Joe Orlando, is the real attraction. Sadly the stories are little more than bare bones plots with standard iconic heroes and damsels in distress.
