The Ruby Eye is the novel that inspired the animated TV series and manga Slayers. Written by Hajime Kanzaka, The Ruby Eye is a hysterically funny comedic fantasy told from the first-person perspective of sorceress Lina Inverse. Completely broke, Inverse thinks she has the solution to her need for cash when she stumbles upon some stolen goods. However, there’s an even more valuable secret in the loot. Featuring original manga art that illustrates certain key points in the story, The Ruby Eye actually captures Inverse’s personality more fully in prose. Kanzaka’s witty narrative perfectly illustrates what a young girl in such a setting would be thinking.
