Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (3rd Series)

SHIELD was disbanded in the wake of the Delta Affair (from Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.). Nick Fury, the organization’s former director, then led a reclusive life away from the specter of war.

A year later, sinister forces threatened the world again. As much as Fury might have liked to avoid the problem, it quite literally came crashing in on him as he was attacked by Hydra agents in his own home. Fury joined with ex-SHIELD agents to save the world from a nuclear holocaust.

It became obvious to everyone how desperately an organization like SHIELD was needed, and the group was reformed under the direction of the United Nations (with periods in “S.H.I.E.L.D.” and a slightly altered meaning for the acronym). Fury had rejoined the war, fighting to keep the world safe from the many forces that threaten it.
