Vampirella & The Blood Red Queen of Hearts

Vampirella’s long list of foes is both impressive and varied, but with the exception of Dracula, none are as well remembered as the Blood Red Queen of Hearts. To that end, the folks over at Harris Comics collected the best stories featuring the arch-nemesis—stories that appeared during the Warren run—and reprinted them in an impressive graphic novel format.

At its simplest, the collection can be broken down into three separate storylines: The Blood Red Queen of Hearts, The Mad King of Drakulon and Attack of the Starbeast. Providing an introduction to Vampirella’s dangerous foe, the first chapter of the novel serves as a jumping on point for new readers. Though possessing no supernatural powers of her own, the Blood Red Queen is well versed in the dark ways of The Crimson Chronicles and can conjure demons to do her bidding. The second chapter is significant because it contains the first full explanation of the downfall of Drakulon, Vampirella’s beloved home world. The final installment, thanks to untied loose ends, sets the stage for the potential return of the starbeast’s alien race—a return to feast on the delicacies known as humans.
