Guy Davis, creator of the “Baker Street” mystery series, frets that he may have embarked on “96 pages of self-indulgence” with this title. What it basically is is a comprehensive look at the artist‘s sketchbook, all pencil sketches, illustrations, and designs from his past and present comic book work. Some of the sketches are complete, while some are works in progress; they run the gamut from ideas for children’s books, to spoofs of classic advertisements, to “Baker Street” characters and settings, and to rough drafts of swimsuit pinups. If you‘re a fan of Davis’s work you’ll probably find this compelling. If you’re unfamiliar with it, you may want to check it out.

Published by Caliber Press, this is a pretty thorough glimpse at some detailed, versatile artwork a lot of comic fans probably aren’t familiar with. Black and white.
