Savage Dragonbert: Full Frontal Nerdity

In issue #57 of The Savage Dragon, there appeared a new backup strip about a nerdy version of Dragon and his sidekick, Hitler’s Brainbert. The strip was the creation of Dragon fan Karl Hörnell, and was a cross between his two favorite comics, Savage Dragon and the daily newspaper comic strip Dilbert. Dragon is drawn as a large version of nerdy Engineer Dilbert with a fin on his head, and Hitler’s Brainbert (a disembodied brain formerly on the head of the villain BrainiApe in the Dragon comic—it might be better if you just didn’t ask) served as a version of the comic strip Dilbert’s evil sidekick, Catbert. The strip was very much like its newspaper counterpart, except instead of satirizing American business, it satirized American comic books.

The popular and funny back-up strip ran until The Savage Dragon #99. This one-shot contains every published strip, some unpublished gems, and an abundance of commentary from Hörnell explaining his creative process.
