Tales of the Beanworld

Beanworld, and the zones beneath, are a weird fantasy dimension which operates under its own rules. It has a hero, Mr. Spook; the artist-dreamer Beanish; the intellectual Professor Garbanzo; a rock ’n’ roll band; a mythical protector, Gran’ma’pa; and the faceless masses of the Beanworld army. Still, it’s not really about destruction or violence. Instead, the stories are about the relationships between the different inhabitants and forces of nature in and around the Beanworld. Every action has its reaction, sometimes with ramifications far beyond expectations.

Tales of the Beanworld is a black and white series written and drawn by Larry Marder, and distributed most recently by Eclipse Comics. A remarkably innovative and engaging series, it went on indefinite hiatus in 1993 after Eclipse Comics closed its doors.
