Batman: Mask of the Phantasm—The Animated Movie

    (DC, 1993)
™ and ©1993 DC Comics

When a scythe-wielding vigilante is blamed for the violent deaths of several reputed mobsters, suspicion arises that Batman may have become too aggressive in his crusade. Then the return of a long-lost love, Andrea Beaumont, a woman of uncommon spirit and beauty, stirs Batman’s memories of his beginnings (shown in a series of flashbacks). Combined with an ambitious power-hungry politician, and the maniacal machinations of the Joker, excitement and passion radiate from this plot-intensive epic.

This adaptation of the animated movie (which was produced by the same crew as the acclaimed television series) is a poignant narrative which reveals the heretofore untold story of a love so intense that Bruce Wayne considered foregoing his graveside vow because he “didn’t count on being happy.”
