Outlaws of the West

After World War II, the popularity of super-heroes declined for a while, opening the door for a wide variety of genre-comics. Western, horror, and mystery comics all enjoyed their time in the spotlight, until the resurgence of the super-hero phenomenon in the 1960s and 70s.

But these theme titles were never completely gone, as this comic, published in the late 1970s, attempts to prove. Unfortunately, the series lacks any central characters or continuity, and the individual stories are not particularly memorable or original. Given the title, readers might expect stories—fictional or fact—about notorious cowboy criminals. Instead, the recurring plot seems to involve basically nice guys who end up on the wrong side of the law by accident or circumstance. These reluctant outlaws usually see the error of their ways, often helping to bring their former partners to justice.
