The trouble with any anthology is the tendency for a wide gap in quality between the best and worst stories, and that is seldom more apparent than in this horror collection. The first story, “Stubborn,” a two–pager about a surfer over strange waters, is more science fiction than horror and has a neat twist that would seem at home in any good SF prose anthology. Next is “Moko Mokai,” a historical horror story about greedy explorers and the trophy heads they collect. It has the best art of the bunch and an ironic ending straight out of Tales from the Crypt. The third story, “Under the Bridge,” is about a homeless man telling a fable to neighborhood kids about a troll friends of his once had to contend with. The art is old–fashioned and clever, and the story is witty. Unfortunately, the art on the final two stories is strictly amateur–hour. If writer Terry Cronin had secured more professional work to finish out the issue, he’d have a better package.
