After a long and successful run at Marvel’s Epic Comics, Sergio Aragonés took his wacky character, Groo, to Image Comics in 1994.

Aragonés doodling style of drawing is perfect for bringing to life the comedic adventures of this barbarian adventurer. Groo is a bumbling, daft, but always eager swordsman, meant primarily as a spoof of Conan the Barbarian. Whereas Conan was feared for his cunning, ambition, and skill with a sword, Groo is feared primarily because he tends to inadvertently bring disaster to both friend and foe. In one issue, Groo took on the mismanaged government in a quest to bring water to a town in need. The town’s only problem had been a shortage of water—at least until Groo came along. In no time at all, Groo turned a happy town with relatively small problems into a completely flooded river.
