Golden Age Flash Archives

    (DC, 1999, 2009)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics

Beginning with his first appearance in Flash Comics #1, this hard-cover series reprints the earliest adventures of Jay Garrick, the original Flash. Surprising as it may be to modern readers, Flash was just one feature among many in the old Flash Comics. The idea of giving even a super-hero like Flash the run of an entire comic book was considered quite risky at the time, and DC preferred to hedge their bets. As a result, Flash shared the title with Hawkman, comic sidekick Woozy Winks, and numerous other action, adventure, and comedy strips.

Since each Flash story occupied only a few pages of each issue of Flash Comics, this archive series can reprint a large number of strips in each volume. Volume 1 of the archive series, for instance reprints the first seventeen Flash stories.
