(Acid Rain, 1992)
™ and ©1992 Rick McCollumn
What stands out most about Rick McCollum’s black-and-white anthology is his ultra–detailed artwork. He also performs double–duty as writer. McCollum’s vision is inspired by the greats of late 19th and early 20th Century fantasy writing; Clark Ashton Smith, H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard are a few of his mentors. The stories that make up Autumn… Earth transport readers to other worlds and other dimensions, yet they all look somewhat familiar. These stories are full of brooding omnipotent madmen, evil wizards and amateur magicians. Every character has a mission, be it conquest, murder, revenge, or all three. McCollum’s stories are comfortably at home in both high fantasy and two–fisted adventure.
