Fem Fantastique
(AC, 1988)
™ Americomics, © AC Comics
This black and white good-girl art title from publisher/editor/writer/artist Bill Black’s AC Comics double features Rad and Dragonfly and guest-stars Stardust—representatives of AC’s super-teams supreme, Femforce and the Sentinels of Justice. Rad is the radically revitalized Ms. V—formerly Ms. Victory (formerly Miss Victory), sort of AC’s hyper-cleavaged hybrid of Superman and Wonder Woman. Her adventures here begin with aliens who want to clone a battalion of warriors from her DNA. Dragonfly’s tale is a sad one: her human half has died, and the magical Dragonfly persona will disintegrate without a human host. Will Dragonfly save herself before she is gone for good? Not if the bad guys have anything to say about it! Fem Fantastique also devotes space to pinup queens Betty Page and Irish McCalla—TV’s “Sheena, Queen of the Jungle” of the 1950s.
