Peter Gullerud’s rainforest saga of talking plants and Tunnelball games is a mix of life in an imperiled natural setting reminiscent of Bone and Elfquest in its depth and complexity. Alongside the day-to-day story of the varied forest denizens is the struggle of technology replacing ancient and nature-worshipping ways. Each issue is thus not only a look into the lives of the characters but makes the jungle itself a character to appreciate.

Originally published in 1988 by Fantagraphics books as a five-issue mini-series, and revived in 1991 in this three-issue series, Grootlore has persevered in collections and on the Internet.
