Vamps: Hollywood & Vein
(Vertigo, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Elaine Lee and William Simpson
“It’s ‘Thelma and Louise’ meet werewolves on wheels. Only they’re vampires…girl vampires…female vampire bikers.” That’s rock musician and would-be screenwriter Russ Campbell’s Tinseltown-style take on the movie he wants to write—and an accurate summation of this series. He could have also sold it as Interview with the Vampire meets Femforce.
The Vamps are Mink, Skeeter, Screech, Howler, and Whipsnake: five beautiful young women with a bloodlust of mythic proportions. Russ Campbell’s movie idea originated not in his imagination, but with his first almost-fatal tryst with Skeeter. The story is told by Mink, who has acting ambitions and wants to star in Campbell’s movie. Unfortunately, her vampiric friends give her aspirations little regard as they feast on producers and backers who would give her the break she needs.
