Counterparts is a three-issue mini-series, written by Stefan Petrucha of X-Files fame. The series is set in a warped future where people are addicted to TPGs. (Temporary Personality Grafts). If you don’t like the person you currently are, simply change your personality. However, people sometimes experience terrible side effects like complete personality loss.

Such is the case with Hieronymous Jones. After his case is listed as incurable, his wife takes him to a TPG specialist who claims that he can reverse the effects. The treatments seem to have no effect on Jones so his wife takes a TPG, turning her into a heartless wench who leaves him. After she leaves, Jones “wakes up” and realizes that the treatments have caused his legs, torso, head, and arms to detach, each having have its own personality.

This surrealistic series premiered in 1993.
